Meet Sofia de Moser Leitão, the Artist
Sofia, originally a Lisbon girl, now lives in Paris, seamlessly bouncing between the two cities while diving deep into her passion for fashion and ceramics. From her super vibrant, jumbo-sized coffee mugs that double as flower vases, to her fun egg cups that sprinkle magic on your morning table, Sofia's pieces are unique and bold, packed with a feel-good, optimistic vibe that's simply infectious. We could not wait to meet the Flâneur.

What’s your name?
Sofia de Moser Leitão
Where are you from?
Lisboa, Portugal
Where do you live?
Paris
One thing people might not know about you?
I am always singing and listening to very loud music at my atelier in Paris. And I love to collect miniatures of things.
How did you start your practice?
About 5 years ago in Lisboa, in a small studio called Caulino, while I was doing my master in cultural management. It was all very spontaneous. I would never have thought it could end up as my main practice. It is still quite crazy to realize that.
Can you tell us a little bit more about your practice and how you work?
Personally I just do hand shaped pieces. I don't work with a wheel. I use a lot of "engobes" and my pieces are usually low temperature (max 1020 degrees). They definitely have a lot of irregularities but this is one of the things that make them unique. I mix a lot of pigments and this is my favorite part of creating a new piece: playing with colors.

What or who inspires you?
I take inspiration from everything and everywhere. It is mainly about shapes and colors. If you keep your eyes open you will see you can find a lot of great inspiration next door.
One thing you would want people to know about your ceramics?
They have defaults, they are not perfect.
It seems your designs really resonated with people. Why do you think ceramics are having such a revival?
It's true that people are again much more interested in ceramics nowadays. People are rethinking the meaning of a handmade piece. I think covid really contributed to this revival of the homemade, the handcraft and the artisanal and that is really great!

What is your best tip for decorating your home with bright objects?
Balancing with light colors and cosy atmosphere. It is great to have some crazy bright and colorful pieces, but they can't be the center of attention. They have to be small details, otherwise you will get tired of looking at them. What I really love about a cute colorful detail is that you are always forgetting about it and rediscovering it later. And this is so refreshing!
One tradition you have when you host people at home:
Great music (most of the time I even prepare a nice playlist according to the mood of the group), candles everywhere, and a lot of white drinks because I get crazy when I end the night with more marks on my rug or couch ahah. Also I absolutely love to prepare a nice table with the right tablecloth, the right napkins, plates etc. I can get very very excited with this. haha It's almost too much. I can even make this with an Uber Eats delivery.
